A few weeks ago, I shared with you how we can prevent damages from spillages. This week let’s talk about another common damage we have come across in our life as cleaners. Wall hangings falling off the wall whilst the cleaner is cleaning are all far too common. Sometimes the pictures may fall off after the cleaner has gone. The main cause of this is that many of the pictures are not sufficiently secured. They are literally just hanging in there by the ‘fingernails’ and will give in to gravity at the slightest force. As you can imagine having an accident in a client’s home is very frightening to any cleaner. Equally, no client wants to return home to find their valuable picture has been reduced to rubble. Not only this, but the falling frames could also scratch the wall as they come down, and they could smash other valuables as they land onto the ground. What about the safety risk? Loose wall hangings could fall onto anyone or anything in their path as they hit the ground. This could be yourself, your visitors, your cleaner or even your pets. It is therefore important take some precautions when hanging those beautiful pictures onto your walls.

1. Make sure the picture is hanged securely. It seems obvious but from experience we find that most pictures are not hung securely. So this is the very first things you must ensure.
2. It is best not to hang pictures or wall decor above the bed. This is because if the picture falls it is likely to get straight onto someone lying in the bed. If you must have a picture above the bed, then perhaps the foot of the bed is better than the head.
3. Secondly, wall fittings can loosen over time, therefore it is recommended you check them often to ensure they still hold securely.
4. If a picture is very heavy then getting some help in mounting the frame is advisable. It is definitely worth the effort because a falling picture can cause tremendous damage.

These simple steps can protect your valuable pictures and in turn protect your home from preventable damage.
