4 Things You Should Never Vacuum

With proper maintenance and following manufacturer’s guidelines, a vacuum cleaner can last many years. One of the common reasons why vacuum cleaners break down is caused by what they pick up. It is easier to just let the vacuum do all the work and pick up whatever is on the floor. However, this is not good practice and can reduce the life span of your machine significantly. Here are 4 things you should never vacuum:-

1. Clips, nails, coins- vacuum cleaners should not be used to pick up hardware like nails and clips as these could get caught up in the motor and cause damage. They could also clog the hoses leading to poor suction.
2. Liquids- unless your vacuum is a wet and dry vacuum cleaner then do not use it to suck up water. A dry vacuum cleaner is not designed to handle liquids and therefore any dampness could kill the motor.
3. Fresh food- don’t give in to the temptation to suck up food spillages with your vacuum. Not only will wet food cause bad odors each time in your machine but the dampness has the potential of ruining the motor. The wet food could also get stuck in the hoses and ccause clogging.
4. Socks- socks have a habit of getting scattered round the house and it is a temptation to just use the vacuum to pick up that sock. This should be avoided at all costs as apart from clogging, pieces of clothing in the vacuum motor pose a fire risk.

The bottom line is if you want to see your vacuum cleaner last long then don’t use it like a trash can. If you use it as it should be used that vacuum cleaner can last you many years making it worth it’s cost many times over.
